Reading Log Week One (second semester):
Book: Twilight Author: Stephenie Meyer Pages Read: 1-128 Quote: “When I opened my eyes in the morning, something was different.” Reaction: I think that Bella was surprised. Since she had been living in Forks for a while, she had grown accustomed to the rainy weather. So when she woke up, she expected the same old dull, cold, and rainy weather. But it turns out that she was wrong. When she awoke, she saw the grayness of the outside reflecting from the window. She took a look outside and saw a big pile of snow covering the yard. Bella didn’t know how she would get to school now. 2/9/09 Pages read: 129-259 Quote: “I opened my eyes to a familiar place. Aware in some corner of my subconscious that I was dreaming.” Reaction: I feel that after Bella met Edward, she was terrified about the thing that he would actually turn out to be. She started having nightmares that day and pictured that Edward was a blood thirsty vampire that wanted to drink her blood. She was scared when she saw her childhood friend Jacob Black drop to the ground and turn into a ware wolf. Bella must have pictured the worst case scenario if she thought that Edward would actually do that on purpose. Bella’s day must have been full of a lot of thinking and getting scared. 2/10/09 Pages read: 260-333 Quote: “His skin, white despite the faint flush from yesterday’s hunting trip, literally sparkled, like thousands of tiny diamonds were embedded in the surface.” Reaction: I feel that when Bella just took one little look at Edward, she immediately fell in love with him. And when she saw how beautiful he looked, she had some questions in mind for him. But when he told her that she wouldn’t be able to hang out with him, due to his lack of control around her, she warned him that she isn’t scared and she trusts him. Edward had a lot of thinking and learning of self control to do if he were to be with Bella for a while. 2/11/09 Pages read: 334-404 Quote: “Billy’s face was impassive as Edward parked my truck against the curb.” Reaction: I feel that Billy and Jacob were unaware that Bella and Edward had been together for a while, so it might have come as a surprise to them. When Edward saw Billy, he acted differently. He knew that Jacob and his family didn’t like him and the rest of the Cullens, so he stayed away and tried not to do anything he’d regret. After their visit, Billy warned Bella to be careful and stay safe when she is with the Cullens. Bella didn’t know why Billy would say that, but she went off to play baseball with having Billy’s words stuck in her head. 2/12/09 Pages read: 405-498 Quote: “I wished there was some way to explain how very uninterested I was in a normal life.” Reaction: I feel that Bella didn’t want to just be human. I think that she wanted to be like Edward, a vampire that she thinks has it all, really doesn’t. He warned Bella that she wouldn’t want to be a vampire. She would have to be isolated from the rest of the people. And that Bella would have to learn how to control herself, which would be difficult due to the many smells and senses that she might she might encounter when she is transformed. So Edward refuses and lets her know that she will be safe under his, the rest of the Cullens, and her dad’s protection. So finally they both kiss under the beautiful light of Twilight. 2/13/09
